There's nothing like working close to home. Gauge, the groom, contacted me back in October 2024 after he and his fiance had seen several of my paintings featuring the first kiss. They wanted the same moment captured on canvas for their sweet day. Gauge went on military deployment between our emails but he followed up with me the following month and we secured their date and discussed their vision.
Dreamfield Farms is a beautiful barn venue located in Fitzpatrick, Alabama. For all of my childhood, I lived about 15 minutes down the road in a tiny community called Stills Crossroads, where there are no red lights and only one country store. The closest city is 20 miles away. Dreamfield Farms feels like "home" to me.
White florals and lanterns dressed up the wedding pavilion on this hot May day. As always, I arrived a few hours in advance to take my time setting up. It is at this timeframe that I start seeing vendors and family members buzz around preparing for the anticipated event.
These marquee letters really set the entire dance floor off. The draped fabric softened the metal ceiling and brightened up the whole scene.
I found my little nook between the big barn door and the bride's cake. It takes me several trips to my car to bring in all of my gear but every piece is essential and serves a purpose.
Linley and Gauge's ceremony unfolded like a story, telling about the journey they took to find one another and all about the qualities and values that mean the most to them. One of the most beautiful parts of the service was when a couple of the bridesmaids sang, "Gratitude," by Brandon Lake. It was worshipful, moving and sang skillfully.
The kiss was magic! Linley looked so beautiful in her flowy, white gown. I had a wonderful time painting for this couple. I understand that they are on a honeymoon to Jamaica and I hope they have the time of their lives.
